Every product page names the fibre used in that style. This page explains what each one does, so you can choose by behaviour rather than by name.
Wool fibres
Merino wool
Fine wool with a small fibre diameter, which is why it sits against skin without prickle. Regulates temperature and resists odour, so it needs washing less often than cotton. Used in socks, tights and knitwear.
Lambswool
From the first shearing, so softer and springier than standard wool. Holds shape well and gives knitwear loft and warmth for its weight.
Cashmere blend
Cashmere gives softness and warmth but is weak alone, so we blend it with wool for structure and wear resistance. A blend lasts considerably longer than pure cashmere in a garment that gets used.
Recycled wool blend
Reclaimed wool fibre re-spun with virgin fibre for strength. Slightly more varied in tone than virgin wool — that variation is inherent to reclaimed fibre.
Plant fibres
Combed cotton
Cotton whose short fibres have been combed out before spinning, leaving a smoother, stronger, less pill-prone yarn. Our standard sock fibre: breathable, washes hot, durable.
Organic cotton
Grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. Performs like conventional cotton; the difference is in how it is farmed, not how it wears.
Bamboo viscose
Bamboo cellulose processed into viscose. Very smooth against skin, good moisture handling, naturally cool. Weaker when wet than cotton, so it wants gentler washing.
Cotton linen blend
Linen adds crispness and breathability, cotton adds softness. Relaxes with wear and creases readily — that is linen behaving normally, not a fault.
Performance fibres
Recycled nylon blend
Nylon reclaimed from post-industrial waste, blended in small proportion for stretch recovery and abrasion resistance. In socks and tights it is what stops the cuff going slack after a few wears.
Cotton elastane blend
A few percent elastane gives fabric recovery so knitted garments and fabrics return to shape instead of growing with wear.
On batch variation
Because we dye and finish in small runs, the same fibre and colour name can differ slightly in tone and handle between batches. Larger manufacturers blend across batches to hide this; we do not, because it would mean holding stock we have not sold.
